Aquatic centres

The maintenance scheduled from Tuesday, 3 June to Friday, 6 June at the Continental Pool has been postponed until further notice due to weather conditions.

There are nine aquatic centres available for public use in our Local Government Area.

Each centre offers a range of activities including swimming club, learn-to-swim, school sport, professional coaching, recreation and fitness swimming.

Most centres have kiosks and toddler's pools.

Swimming facilities provided by Council include:

Freshwater pools:

  • Helensburgh (solar heated)
    Walker Street, Helensburgh;
  • Corrimal (heated), open all year round and fees apply
    Short Street, Corrimal;
  • Berkeley
    Winnima Way, Berkeley; 
  • Dapto (heated), open all year round and fees apply
    Bangaroo Avenue, Dapto;
  • Unanderra (solar heated)
    Chapmin Street, Unanderra;
  • Beaton Park (indoor, heated), open all year round and fees apply
    Foleys Road, Gwynneville.

Ocean saltwater pools:

  • Thirroul
    The Esplanade, Thirroul;
  • Wollongong (Continental)
    Cliff Road, Wollongong;
  • Port Kembla
    Olympic Boulevarde, Port Kembla.

Pool operating times
Summer:
From September school holidays until the ANZAC Day long weekend

  • 6am-6pm seven days a week (outside daylight saving time)
  • 6am-7pm seven days a week (during daylight saving time)

Winter:

  • Continental Pool Wollongong: After ANZAC Day long weekend 2008 until the beginning of September 2008 School Holidays - 6am to 1pm 7 days per week
  • Thirroul and Port Kembla Pools: After ANZAC Day long weekend 2008 up to and including 9th June 2008 - 6am to 1pm 7 days per week
  • Corrimal and Dapto Pools After ANZAC Day long weekend 2008 until the beginning of September 2008 School Holidays 6am-6pm on weekdays and 8am-3pm on weekends

Council provides a professional lifeguard service at all of its aquatic centres.

Children's Learn-to-Swim
Council has entered a partnership with the Royal Lifesaving Society NSW, to conduct their award winning learn-to-swim program-'Swim and Survive', at Council's aquatic centres during the summer season. The program caters for children aged from 18 months to 12 years. All instructors are AustSwim qualified.
