Cultural Plan

This document is the culmination of 18 months of community engagement. The role of the plan is to establish the framework, action plans and budget for supporting and developing the city’s cultural life and activities over the next five years.

The Plan identifies how Wollongong can enhance its cultural resources and strategic partnerships to produce sustainable economic, environmental and cultural outcomes.

Key cultural areas: 

  • leadership and partnerships - development of sustainable partnerships for ‘whole of place’ planning, funding and development
  • cultural infrastructure - provision of buildings and resources that facilitate cultural expression and community interaction
  • cultural economy - development of local cultural industry skills and opportunities to contribute to a flourishing economy and innovative region
  • placemaking and public art - enhancing the environment with vibrant and meaningful public places that engage residents and visitors
  • cultural heritage - our unique and distinctive places, people and practices are protected, promoted and celebrated
  • community and cultural diversity - increased participation of our diverse communities in programs that express creativity and build relationships
