Council has a number of programs for providing financial assistance to groups and individuals in the Wollongong community. We also provide opportunities for businesses to sponsor Council events and programs.
Financial Assistance
Our Financial Assistance Policy allows for financial assistance to be provided to groups and individuals in a consistent, equitable and transparent manner.

Applications for all Financial Assistance programs are invited from 1 February – 30 March 2012.
Guidelines and application forms for each program are listed below, and should be read in conjunction with the Financial Assistance Policy above.
Free information sessions for potential applicants for Small Cultural Grants, Sponsorship of Community Events, and Contribution to Public Bands and Choirs will be held in the Library Theatrette, Ground Floor, 41 Burelli Street, Wollongong on the following dates:
- Wednesday 15 February, 12.30 – 1.30pm
- Wednesday 14 March, 12.30 – 1.30pm
- Wednesday 14 March, 5.30 – 6.30pm

This program aims to assist with conserving and repairing heritage items in the local area.
Applications are open to those undertaking conservation works or reports for heritage items that are listed in a current or draft Local Environmental Plan.

Established in 1998, our Small Cultural Grants program supports a diverse range of activities that enrich the cultural life of our area, and promote community participation in cultural activities. This program is open to individual and not-for-profit community groups in the local cultural industry, including music, performing arts, visual arts, crafts and other cultural initiatives. Those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders are encouraged to apply.
This program includes three categories:
- Category 1 – Community Cultural Development Projects: up to $2000
- Category 2(A) – Professional Development, Marketing and Minor Capital Support: up to $4000
- Category 2(B) – New Initiatives: Professional Development, Marketing and Minor Capital Support: up to $1000.

This grant aims to involve as many people as possible in NAIDOC Week celebrations of the history, culture and achievements of the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.
Applicants must be not-for-profit community organisations proposing an activity that will occur as part of NAIDOC Week (1 – 8 July 2012).

This program provides assistance for not-for-profit groups, organisations or individuals seeking to organise a community event within the City of Wollongong between July 2012 – June 2013.
Activities sponsored through this program include citywide events, local or suburb-based events, and sporting events of State or National significance.

Groups, organisations or individuals within the City of Wollongong who are not eligible for support under any other Financial Assistance program may be considered for a minor donation. Eligible categories include:
- Selection to represent the City of Wollongong in a recognised national or international event.
- Deriving the majority of revenue from donations or public subscription
- Providing a recognised community service which would otherwise be non-existent
- Being a recognised not-for-profit organisation under the Charitable Fundraising Act.

Council provides assistance for initiatives and events that support and create economic opportunities in the Wollongong Local Government Area.
