The Discovery Centre Sunlight in Schools Environmental Education Program for 2012

The Sunlight in Schools Program is an exciting new venture in environmental education at the Wollongong Botanic Gardens. The program includes formal education that encompasses different stages of schools learning for pre-school, home school, schools, TAFE, university and overseas students.

The activities have been designed to cover key components of the Sustainability Curriculum Framework (2010) for years K-10. All lessons are also linked to the NSW Board of Studies Syllabus Outcomes, and are conducted by qualified and experienced Botanic Gardens staff.

Sunlight in Schools focuses on increasing students' knowledge of key environmental issues, encourages positive attitudes towards the natural world, and develops a hands-on application of knowledge and skills.

It'll also give students the chance to explore and interact with nature while learning and experiencing the Botanic Garden.

Waste Wise Challenge

During the day's activity we ask the school to participate in the Discovery Centre's Waste Wise Challenge - Nude Food, what’s in your Lunch Box?

Information about this this will sent to teachers and parents before the day’s excursion so that parents can be aware to try to pack a minimal waste producing lunch for their children. This short activity conducted during lunch will enforce the need to reduce reuse and recycle in a fun and rewarding way.
