About the Markets

Sample fresh international cuisine, listen to music and watch the sun set over Flagstaff Hill this summer as Wollongong City Council launches new Twilight Food of the World Markets.

Italian piadma, falafel rolls, curries, Dutch pancakes and gozleme are just some of the tempting bites that are on offer at the twilight food markets, being held at Flagstaff Hill on the first Friday of every month between October and March.

Council’s General Manager, David Farmer encouraged residents to pack a picnic rug and come along to enjoy some good food and great views from the popular new viewing platforms at Flagstaff Hill.

“We’re really excited about this latest event on Council’s community calendar. Everyone we have mentioned the food markets too has been really positive about it, and both young and old are booking the first date in their calendar,” David Farmer said.

“The community has been calling for more signature events to draw people into the city centre, particularly in the warmer months when Wollongong is at its best.”

“The international food markets are part of Council’s strategy to create more activity in the city centre. We hope the attraction of good international food, relaxed music and a spectacular setting will draw more families to the foreshore this summer,” Mr Farmer said.

“We have invested significant money into refurbishing the Blue Mile, from the Wollongong Golf Course to Stuart Park. The markets are just one of the ways we can encourage more people to enjoy the revamped space.”
