Wollongong City Council
Administration Building and offices will be closed from 3pm on Friday, 24 December 2010 during the Christmas period. Regular operating hours will resume on Tuesday, 4 January 2011.

Waste Management Services
Waste collections will take place on scheduled days with no interruption to normal services. Between 25 December – 3 January residents should contact Thiess Services on (02) 4272 0300 for any recycling, green waste and domestic waste collection service difficulties, or to book the new on-call clean-up service.
Landfill Sites & Bulk Recycling
Whytes Gully and Helensburgh Waste Depots will remain open as normal, with the exception of Christmas Day when both facilities will be closed. Whytes Gully will be open weekdays from 7.30am- 4.30pm, and weekends and public holidays from 8am- 4pm. Helensburgh will be open weekdays from 8am- 4pm, and weekends and public holidays from 9am- 1pm.
Any bulk recyclables can be recycled at both Waste Depots free of charge. For further information please visit Council’s website.
Emergency Services
Rural Fire Service (RFS) – for all fire calls call 000

Crematorium and Cemeteries
Open all weekdays over the holiday period with the exception of Public Holidays. The Crematorium will be closed on 25 December, however the after hours phone service will operate as normal while the crematorium is closed.
The Gardens and Cemeteries will be open to the public in daylight hours every day.
Leisure & Recreational Services
Russell Vale Golf Course:
Closed Christmas Day only. Open all other days from 6am till dusk.
Outdoor Pools: Closed Christmas Day only. Normal hours apply throughout the holiday period.
Leisure Centres: Beaton Park and Lakeside Leisure Centres:
Closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. Lakeside Leisure Centre will also be closed from 26 - 28 December, and 1-3 January.
Beaches/Lifeguards: A Council lifeguard supervisor is available on Sundays and Public Holidays from 9am- 6pm. Council staff lifeguards will service beaches on all non-public holidays from 9am - 6pm for all beaches except Sandon Point, Coalcliff and Scarborough which will be patrolled from 10am to 5pm, and North Wollongong Beach which will be patrolled from 8am- 6pm.
Botanic Garden: Closed Christmas Day only and open 10am – 6.45pm on other Public Holidays. Normal opening hours are weekends 10am to 6.45pm and weekdays 7am to 5pm.
Library Services
All Wollongong City Library branches will close at 5pm on Friday, 24 December 2010.
Corrimal, Dapto, Helensburgh, Thirroul, Unanderra and Warrawong branches will remain closed until normal business resumes on Tuesday, 4 January 2011. Return chutes at these branches will also be closed during this time.
Wollongong Central Library will be open from Wednesday, 29 December to Friday, 31 December between 9.30am – 5pm.
The return chute will be closed from 5pm Friday, 24 December until 9.30am Wednesday, 29 December, and 5pm Friday, 31 December until 9.30am Tuesday, 4 January 2011. Normal business hours will resume on Tuesday, 4 January, 2011.
Community Centres
Most community centres have some usage over this period.
Youth Centre
Wollongong Youth Services will be closed from 1pm on Friday, 24 December 2010 and will reopen on Tuesday, 4 January 2011.
Wollongong City Gallery
Wollongong City Gallery will be closed from 1pm on Friday, 24 December to Tuesday, 28 December inclusive, and on Saturday, 1 January. From Wednesday, 29 – Friday, 31 December the Gallery will be open from 10am – 5pm. Normal operating hours will resume on Sunday, 2 January.
Animal Issues
For lost/stray animals contact the RSPCA. The RSPCA will be closed on Christmas Day, Monday, 27 December and Monday, 3 January. They will be open on Sunday, 26 December and Saturday, 1 January 2011.
