Have Your Say on Proposed Changes at McCauleys, East Corrimal and Woonona Beaches

The Dogs on Beaches consultation is now closed.

Community submissions are currently being analysed by Council officers. Once this analysis is completed, an independent Peer Review by an external Scientist will examine both the community submissions and the Review of Environmental Factors (REF) report. It is expected that the Peer Review will commence in early 2011. Once the Peer Review is completed a report will be prepared and will go to a future Council meeting.

The community will kept updated.

Council adopted a new 'Dogs on Beaches and Parks' policy at the 28 September 2010 Council meeting. Beaches from Stanwell Park to Windang have been designated as red, orange or green.

  • Red - dogs are banned at all times
  • Orange - dogs are allowed on the beach before 9am and after 6pm in summer and after 4pm in winter
  • Green - dogs allowed off the leash under owners supervision.

However, we're asking you to have your say on the future of three Northern suburbs beaches:

  • McCauleys Beach, Thirroul - is currently an off-leash beach. Concerns have been raised by the community about the impact on Aboriginal heritage at McCauleys Beach. As a result, Council is asking you to have your say on proposal to ban dogs from McCauleys Beach.  McCauleys Beach

  • East Corrimal Beach - is currently an off-leash beach. A Review of Environmental Factors Report - Dogs on Beaches (REF report)  has recommended dogs not be allowed on East Corrimal Beach due to the impact of dogs on migratory birds. Have your say by reading the REF Report below.  East Corrimal Beach

  • Woonona Beach - Council is proposing to make part of Woonona Beach off-leash to dogs as an alternative to the changes proposed at East Corrimal and McCauleys Beach.  Woonona Beach
