Description of Strategy

The Illawarra Councils of Kiama Municipal Council, Shellharbour City Council and Wollongong City Council have partnered together with support from the NSW Environmental Trust Urban Sustainability Program to develop a regional Illawarra Biodiversity Strategy.

This Strategy consolidates the Illawarra Councils’ commitments to a range of higher order biodiversity targets set at the national, state and regional level. We have partnered together as a regional strategic approach is more likely to improve conservation and management of biodiversity across the Illawarra.

The Strategy is divided into two parts. Volume One provides a brief overview of the key issues values and threats, and the action plan which directs the biodiversity priorities for the next several years. Volume Two provides the detail on the values, threats and methods used to assess them.

The Draft Illawarra Biodiversity Strategy will be on public exhibition during the period 26th July – 27th August 2010.

Your comments are encouraged and should be made by written submission. All submissions should quote file number ESP-080.06.002 and be submitted by 5pm Friday 27th August.
