Employee Assistance

Our Employee Assistance Program provides counselling and support to all employees and their immediate family members. The service is free and confidential and available to discuss both work and personal issues.​

Sustainable Focus

We want to ensure that as Wollongong grows, our unique natural areas are protected and our community’s quality of life improves. We are actively working to reduce the environmental impact of Council’s operations by reducing our resource consumption, waste generation and our greenhouse gas emissions.We are very excited to achieve a‘5 Star Green Star’ performance rating for our Administration Building, which has been assessed against best practice benchmarks for energy, water and resource efficiency and broader environmental sustainability.  This achievement represents ‘Australian Excellence’ in building performance and is the highest rating in Australia to date. It also demonstrates our visionary leadership and commitment to protect our environment.

We also strive to educate and assist the community to reduce their impact on the environment and take positive action.  We provide a diverse range of workshops, events and educational programs from backyard chook keeping through to bushwalks and educational activities.

50:50 Vision Councils for Gender Equity

​The 50:50 Vision – Councils for Gender Equity Program is designed to encourage councils to identify gender equity issues and work towards achieving gender equity within their organisations and among elected representatives.
 
The 50:50 Vision aims to increase the participation of women in local government at both senior management and elected representative levels through an accreditation program.  There is a hierarchy of accreditation levels ranging from bronze to gold.
 
Wollongong City Council (WCC) has been awarded the Silver Award for our ongoing commitment to gender equity in local government.

Work Health + Safety

We are committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for all persons including our employees, contractors, volunteers and visitors.

It is paramount that all levels of management and employees recognise the importance of developing and maintaining health and safe working conditions in all Council workplaces.  To enable this to be achieved our Work Health and Safety policies, procedures, practices and systems comply with all relevant acts and regulations.  They are continually monitored and reviewed to ensure ongoing improvement aimed at elimination of work related illness and injury.
