At 1pm on Tuesday 15 March, Wollongong City Council Administrators will welcome Deborah De Williams, Tasmanian ultra marathon runner, breast cancer survivor, world record holder and charity fundraiser, to Wollongong Central Shopping Centre (at the David Jones entrance between David Jones and Prouds).
Deborah De Williams has walked around Australia (2004), battled breast cancer (2006), run around Tasmania (2007), run around Australia (2010) and is now, running from Darwin to Hobart.
On 27 March 2010 Deborah and her dog Maggie left Hobart to run around Australia in a bid to raise money for the National Breast Cancer Foundation and attempt to become the first woman and the first dog to run around Australia. They completed the attempt on 4 October 2010 but didn’t stop there.
When Deborah arrives in Hobart in April 2011 she will have achieved another world record by completing 2½ laps around Australia on foot.
Wollongong City Council Administrator, Robert McGregor AM said that Deborah’s story is an inspiration to all of Australia and we warmly welcome her and Maggie to the city of Wollongong.
Deborah (and Maggie) will present a letter of introduction from the Honourable Lord Mayor of Hobart, Ian Valentine, to the Administrators.
