On Friday, 8 April the pathway/cycleway between the continental pool and North Beach will be closed for the start of coastal protection works at North Beach. The coastal protection works are a part of the promenade to be constructed n the front of the Bathers Pavilion.
Wollongong City Council’s Director Infrastructure and Works, Peter Kofod said that the temporary footpath along the beach will be removed and people are encouraged to detour along the Cliff Road footpath while the works take place.
Due to site constraints, Council is unable to provide an alternative off-road shareway/cycleway during these construction works. Cyclists will need to choose to either use Cliff Road or, dismount and walk on the footpaths provided. Children less than 12 years of age are allowed to ride on footpaths. An adult accompanying a child under 12 years of age is also allowed to ride on the footpath.
Access to the Continental Pool will be from the Belmore Basin end of Cliff Road only.
“Council apologises for any inconvenience to the community while construction is underway. It is anticipated that the pathway will reopen in time for the busy summer period,” Mr Kofod added.
