The Blue Mile will come alive this summer as Wollongong City Council introduces yet another great event to the city’s social calendar.

‘Beats by the Sea’ will kick off at Belmore Basin from 2pm next Sunday, 24 October with an afternoon of music performances by local artists Penny Hartgerink, Dan Favelle and the City of Wollongong Brass Band.

Beats by the Sea will be held one Sunday afternoon a month between October and March. Lock in 28 November, 19 December, 23 January, 27 February and 20 March to catch a host of different musical acts.

General Manager, David Farmer, said Beats by the Sea is part of Council’s commitment to revitalise the city and encourage more locals and visitors to enjoy what Wollongong has to offer.

“Last week we hosted the first Friday twilight food evenings at Flagstaff Hill and they were a huge hit. We have received lots of positive feedback from residents about the new initiative, and hope to see more and more people attend over the summer,” he said.

“This latest event is targeted at people looking for something relaxing to do on a Sunday afternoon. It’s perfect for families and friends looking to enjoy a coffee or ice-cream at Belmore Basin and listen to some great local music.”

“In the last 2 years Council has spent considerable money and resources repairing and refurbishing the Blue Mile. Both the international food evenings and Beats by the Sea are designed to encourage more people to come into the city and take advantage of the revamped space. “

Stay tuned to Council’s website to see what acts are coming next as part of Beats by the Sea.
