Hundreds of bikes wrapped in tinsel and Christmas decorations will descend on Flagstaff Hill at 11am this Saturday, 4 December 2010, carrying gifts for the Wollongong City Council Giving Tree Appeal.

The annual Biker’s Run is an important part of the city’s Giving Tree Appeal, providing a large number of gifts for disadvantaged children across the community who might not otherwise receive a Christmas present.

Council is encouraging residents to come along to Flagstaff Hill between 10am and 12.30pm on Saturday to join in the festivities and support the Giving Tree by donating a gift.

General Manager, David Farmer, said he would be joining the city’s Bikers Run from Shellharbour to Flagstaff Hill this Saturday.

“The Biker’s Run is a great annual event, bringing people from all walks of life together to support a worthy local cause,” Mr Farmer said.

“Sadly many people in our community will go without this Christmas. The Giving Tree is one way we can all give a helping hand to local families in need and ensure all children in the community can share in the festive spirit.”

“There will be a barbeque, jumping castle, face painting and even a visit from Santa Claus to welcome bikers and entertain the waiting crowd at Flagstaff Hill on Saturday,” the General Manager said.

The gift bearing bikers will descend on Flagstaff Hill at 11am on Saturday to donate their gifts directly to waiting charity trucks. Residents can also bring their own donations of unwrapped gifts for a child under the age of 16.

If you can’t make it to Flagstaff Hill on Saturday, you can drop off a gift in the foyer of Council’s Administration Building, any Branch of the Wollongong City Library, Wests Illawarra, Novotel Northbeach, Customer Service desks at both Figtree and Westfield Warrawong and Wollongong Central Customer Service Centre (located on level 1, opposite Priceline).

The Giving Tree proudly supports St Vincent De Paul and Anglicare.
