Pack your picnic lunch and come along with your family or friends to enjoy a day in the Botanic Garden. This Sunday, 20 February from 11am the Friends of the Wollongong Botanic Garden are hosting a free day of fun activities.

Free self-guided garden walks, face painting and lucky gate prizes are all part of the day’s activities. Don’t forget to bring your picnic basket.

Wollongong Botanic Garden’s Curator, Paul Tracey said the Botanic Garden Picnic Day encourages the community to enjoy one of Wollongong’s best kept secrets, the attractive gardens.

“The garden hosts a broad range of exotic and local native plants and the picnic day allows the community to spend quality time in the Botanic Garden to make the most of the beautiful surroundings,” said Mr Tracey.

“We want to showcase the Botanic Garden to the city of Wollongong as much more than a place of tranquil beauty but a venue for an exciting array of activities and experiences.”

“The free activities and prizes are a way of energising the Garden by inviting the community along to relax, socialise and enjoy the public green space,” Mr Tracey added.

“In the last few years we’ve made some great improvements to the garden, with the new all abilities accessible children’s playground, the refurbished duck pond and the re-introduction of events such as live plays and theatre.”

“I encourage people to get involved and come down on Sunday to enjoy the day in Wollongong Botanic Garden,” Mr Tracey said.

Friends of Wollongong Botanic Garden Family Picnic Day is free and everyone is welcome. Entrance to the event is from the Murphys Avenue, Keiraville gate.
