Wollongong City Council is encouraging food fanatics to check out the Sustainable Illawarra Harvest Festival on Sunday 15 May to celebrate a variety of healthy and delicious natural foods from local producers and backyard gardeners.
The festival, which will be held opposite Wollongong Harbour at Osborne Park, will feature a range of fresh produce sampling stalls, as well as demonstrations on topics such as veggie gardening, chook keeping and vegetarian cooking.
“You don’t have to be a serious gardener or food producer to enjoy the festival, as there will be something for everyone to enjoy,” said Vanni De Luca, Manager, Environmental Strategy and Planning.
“You can sample some tasty produce from local food growers and gardeners, and also learn how to produce your own through a variety of entertaining demonstrations and performances.
“If you like good food, have an interest in growing your own produce, or just want an enjoyable day out, bring down your picnic blanket and take part in this relaxing festival by the Harbour.”
The festival will be the first event to celebrate Families Week and the ‘Connections’ Project will be launched as part of the Harvest Festival.
There will be plenty of entertainment including
• Scarecrow making for the kids
• Entertainment from the local community, including the Rock-a-lots
• Roving performers, farm yard animals and more
• Produce and food stalls with an emphasis on foods which are locally grown and produced
• Sustainability demonstration on topics such as veggie gardening, chook keeping and vegetarian cooking
• Information stalls for local food organisations
• Stalls displaying products and services for everyday use.
As well as fresh food and hints and tips on cooking and gardening, i98FM’s Street Fleet will be at the festival to catch all the action. If you are a interested in having a stall or for more information contact Kylie-ann at Bluejuice Events on (02) 4221 1345.
