Wollongong City Council has relocated this weekend’s Tropfest event to the University of Wollongong Uni Hall.
The change of venue from the Wollongong Botanic Garden is the result of the recent wet weather and the larger crowds expected on Sunday.
Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery OAM said the event would still go ahead.
“It’s a shame we’re unable to host this event outdoors but the important thing is that it still goes ahead,” Cr Bradbery said.
“Sometimes you need to enact Plan B and that’s what we’ve had to do. The Uni Hall is a good venue with the right set up.”
The UniBar will open from 5.30pm and entertainment will start at 6.30pm in the Uni Hall. The evening will be MC’ed by i98fm host Fairlie and include the live broadcast of Tropfest, a performance from Triple J Unearthed band Pocket of Stones and several local films.
Tropfest is being broadcast live to Wollongong for the first time in the short-film festival’s 20-year history.
While the event is free, people are encouraged to register online to ensure they get a spot. Due to capacity people are encouraged to get to the Uni early. Drinks and food will be available from the UniBar.
***NOTE: Weather permitting, the IMB Garden Cinema is still scheduled to run this Friday 17 February and Saturday 18 February at the Botanic Garden***
