City Beach rescue

Surf conditions today are again testing for swimmers at beaches with strong north east winds. The city beaches are currently experiencing a half-metre easterly swell and many locations also have large gullies and rips.

Swift action by Council's City Beach lifeguards Daniel Bloom, Makayla Morris and Ben Rasmussen and support from Lifeguard Supervisor Paul Maidment saw six people today rescued from a large rip 300 metres south of the flagged area.

A 22 year old male was recovered by the lifeguards and treated at the scene for shock and possible immersion and was later assessed and released on site by attending ambulance staff.

The City Beach precinct is patrolled by Council's Lifeguards but unfortunately the individuals chose to ignore the warning signs present and are fortunate that the timely actions of the Lifeguards avoided a potential tragedy.

This is again a reminder for all beach patrons to heed the advice of Lifeguards and Lifesavers and only always swim between the Red and Yellow Flags and be aware of their own ability and limitations.
