Wollongong City Council has opened an important connection in the West Dapto Access strategy – a 250 metre link in Fairwater Drive Horsley.
This is the first piece of infrastructure to be completed under the West Dapto Initial Access Strategy.
Director Infrastructure and Works Peter Kofod said the new link will help to provide improved access to the Horsley and Dapto community members with better access to Bong Bong Road and Shone Avenue.
“The West Dapto Initial Access Strategy has been designed to provide significant improvements to a number of existing roads and construction of new links such as the Fairwater Drive extension to provide greater connectivity between Horsley and Dapto,” Mr Kofod said. “I would also like to acknowledge the support through an interest free loan from the NSW Local Infrastructure Fund.”
The new link is a 250 metre extension of Fairwater Drive to Bong Bong Road, West Dapto, including a new roundabout. The works also include 260 metres of road improvements along Bong Bong Road. Total cost of construction was $2.2 million and is part of an interest free loan from the Department of Planning and Infrastructure’s Local Infrastructure Fund.
The West Dapto access strategy will provide greater connection between Horsley and Dapto as well as to the wider road network. The strategy will:
- deliver affordable and appropriate improvements in access to West Dapto
- address the access issues confronting the 7,000 residents of Horsley
- and support the planned development in stages one and two of West Dapto.
