Wollongong City Council Administrators have adopted a revised ward boundary plan for the 2011 September local government elections.

The ward boundary plan was placed on public exhibition from 12 May to 14 June. The Administrators received eight submissions on the proposed ward boundaries.

Following a review of the submissions one Census Collector District of 255 electors in Mt St Thomas has moved from Ward 3 into Ward 2. This means that all households in Mt St Thomas are now in Ward 2.

Council Administrator Col Gellatly AO said the decision on the ward structure for Wollongong meets the NSW State Government requirement to alter the ward boundaries prior to 24 June.

“The new ward boundaries also provide three reasonably equal sized portions of the City which can now elect four councillors for each ward, which was also specified in the NSW State Government legislation,” Mr Gellatly said.

“The new wards are nearly equal in elector size and comply with the requirements of the NSW Electoral Commission.”

The new ward boundaries are now on display at Council’s website, see www.wollongong.nsw.gov.au.
