Wollongong City Council will purchase several properties bounded by Flinders, Keira and Campbell Streets – the old Quattro site – for $5.2 million.

The site is one of five sites identified in the CBD Action Plan as a key site in the city.

Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery OAM said the purchase will enable Council to conduct clean up works on the site, removing several buildings and remediating the area.

“Currently the site is a gateway site and is dominated by vacant buildings and is untidy,” Cr Bradbery said.
“We need to ensure that people visiting the city either for the first time or as community members are not greeted with a sprawling site with dilapidated buildings.”

This purchase supports the Council’s Inner City Parking Strategy which has identified a need for Council to provide 1,700 off street car park spaces by 2026.

Council will remediate the site at a cost of $1.2 million from current property sales and provide much needed additional car parking and also lease two of the current buildings on a commercial basis.

“Council will develop a Masterplan which will guide the future development of this key site to ensure it supports the growth of the City Centre.”
