Council welcomes ATO office

Wollongong City Council has welcomed the Australian Taxation Office move to new premises in Kembla Street, Wollongong.
This move will see a major Federal government department secure state of the art premises in an ecologically sustainable building for up to 25 years.

Wollongong City Deputy Lord Mayor Councillor David Brown said the ATO office will provide employment for up to 300 people during constructing and when completed offer employment for about 300 ATO staff.

“Wollongong is attracting many new and exciting developments,” Cr Brown said. “This new ATO building will feature superb ecologically sustainable features and represents a welcome addition to the commercial office space in the City.”

The development in this city precinct will add to the revitalisation of the city centre and will bring 300 people into the heart of the city, and will also not be far from the great food precincts and the city’s retailing centre.

The building will be the first privately funded building in Wollongong to achieve a minimum NABERS (National Australian Built Environment Rating System) energy rating of 4.5 Stars and 5 Star Green Star Rating.

ADM Architects has been appointed as the lead consultant by the proponent Black Opal Bay Pty Limited for the construction of a new five storey office Building in the Wollongong City Centre with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) signing as the anchor tenant.

The project will see the construction of an environmentally sustainable office building comprising of 5,500sqm of new “A” grade office space with retail/commercial areas on the ground floor. Functional open plate floor plates will be used on Levels two to five and these will maximise natural light and the views from the building.

This will be Wollongong’s first privately funded building to achieve a minimum NABERS (National Australian Built Environment Rating System) energy rating of 4.5 Stars and 5 Star Green Star Rating.  Construction is due to commence shortly and be completed by November 2013.
