The countdown is on to New Year’s Eve, and with only eight days to go Wollongong City Council and IMB Building Society are busy getting ready for the family friendly event at Belmore Basin between 7 and 10.30pm.

If you’re wondering how to get to the New Year’s Eve celebrations you can catch the train to Fairy Meadow, North Wollongong or Wollongong stations and jump on the Gong Shuttle Bus. You can hop off or on the Gong Shuttle Bus on Cliff Road near Georges Place or along Corrimal Street and walk the short walk to the festivities.

Manager of Organisational Strategy and Improvement, Greg Doyle, said roads will be closed from 5 to 10.15pm on New Year’s Eve along Cliff Road between Georges Place and Marine Drive, also Harbour Street between Cliff Road and Smith Street, including Old Court House Lane / Harbour access ramp off Endeavour Drive.

“Businesses within the road closure zones will be open as normal and as well as the Wollongong Harbour businesses, additional food stalls for the celebrations will be located in Osborne Park and Lang Park,” said Greg Doyle.

“Amusement rides for the whole family will be located in both Osborne Park and the northern end of Lang Park as per last year. Additional toilets for the event will be spread across the area.”

“An exciting new element to the event program this year, is ‘Elemental Grooves’ who will be holding a drumming workshop for two hours allowing 15 persons at a time to have the experience of drumming,” explained Mr Doyle.

“There’s something for the whole family, so bring your picnic blanket, you radio to tune into i98fm and come along to Belmore Basin to enjoy this family friendly alcohol-free event proudly bought to you by Wollongong City Council and IMB and supporting sponsors,” concluded Greg Doyle.

“IMB is delighted to be co-presenting these spectacular New Years Eve celebrations as part of our 130th birthday,” said IMB Chief Executive Rob Ryan. “Throughout our 130 years, IMB has maintained a close involvement with the Wollongong community and we see this event as another way to give back to the region.”
