Wollongong City Council has plenty of fun activities on offer to keep the kids entertained these Easter school holidays.
The city’s libraries will be a great place to enjoy storytelling, music, craft, creative writing and Nintendo Wii. Detailed times and locations are available on the library’s website at www.wollongong.nsw.gov.au/library, or pick up a ‘What’s On’ brochure from your nearest branch.
The Botanic Garden’s Discovery Centre will host ‘Recycled Xylophone and the Talking Tree’ daily from 11 – 15 April. Suitable for children aged 3 – 12 years, this daily program costs $7 per child (or $15 per family of three or more) and includes a treasure hunt, recycled crafts, and the Talking Tree Garden Show. Bookings are not required for individuals or families, but Vacation Care Groups should call 4225 2636 to reserve a place.
At the City Gallery, children in grades 5 – 12 are invited to write stories responding to artworks displayed in the Just Imagine exhibition. Entries are due by 21 April, with Unishop book vouchers to be awarded for the best story entered for each artwork. Visitors of all ages can also explore the hands-on activity stations as part of Picture This! and make their own artworks which will become part of the exhibition. Learn to Swim classes for children aged 5 – 12 years will be held at Beaton Park Leisure Centre from 11 – 15 April. This program consists of five 30 minute classes and costs $60 per child. Bookings are essential. Call the Leisure Centre on 4227 7755 for more information.
For those aged 12 – 18 years, Wollongong Youth Centre has a program of free activities including table sports competitions, Wii games, art and hip hop workshops and music performances.
