Wollongong City Council’s Beaton Park Pool has been awarded a five star rating for their operational and safety standards.

The Royal Life Saving Society presented the award to Beaton Park Leisure Centre, which met 40 pre-determined aquatic safety criteria to receive the five star rating.

The criteria examines safety procedures and risk management in areas such as general and technical operations of swimming pools, first aid, facility design, swimming programs, and supervision.

Council’s Recreation Services Manager, Mark Bond, said the five star rating was a great way to highlight the great standard of services and facilities available at Beaton Park.

“Beaton Park Pool is the first pool in Southern New South Wales to achieve a five star rating, which recognises Beaton Park Pool as one of the country’s best practice public swimming facilities, meeting all the current Royal Life Saving Guidelines in regards to public pool safety,” said Mr Bond.

“Beaton Park Pool is a great facility for programs such as school swimming programs, learn to swim lessons, adult stroke correction and aquarobics with users of the facility now formerly being assured that the facility is amongst the safest in the State.”

“Achieving a five star rating is an outstanding achievement by the committed Management team onsite and certainly sets a benchmark for other facilities to follow,” Mr Bond added.
