If you’re over 55 get active this Seniors Week with a variety of great workshops, events and activities.
Wollongong City Council officially launched the 2011 Seniors Week program today with a 96 page booklet bursting with exciting events and activities that will run from Sunday, 20 to 27 March.
The diverse range of activities starts on Sunday, 20 March with the official opening and concert featuring the Tornadoes with Johnny Devlin, at the Illawarra Master Builders Club.
Council’s General Manager, David Farmer, said that Seniors Week was an initiative that acknowledged the contribution of older residents in our Community.
“There are a variety of activities on offer this year including tai chi, Thai yoga, carpet bowls, the afternoon tea dance, seniors walking groups, Illawarra dragon boat encounter, bird watching and a heritage walk,” said Mr Farmer.
“Seniors Week provides an opportunity for people to participate in new activities, enjoy the outdoors and come together with other over 55s in the region.”
“It’s going to be a great week, and a wonderful celebration of our older citizens. I encourage anyone interested to get in early so they don’t miss out,” Mr Farmer added.
Bookings are essential for some events such as the opening concert and afternoon tea dance. Tickets go on sale Monday, 21 February. To make a booking visit Council’s Administration Building.
