Wollongong City Council is inviting the community to join them in taking action against graffiti by participating in Council’s Graffiti Action Day.
Everyone is invited to come along to Berkeley Neighbourhood Centre at 10am on Friday, 13 May to enjoy a barbecue, share some stories, and help clean off graffiti around Berkeley.
Council’s Community Cultural and Library Services Manager Jenny Thompson said a number of Graffiti Action Day events and activities will occur across the state as local Councils join with their communities in a bid to make local neighbourhoods look and feel safer.
“Everyone is welcome to join in and volunteer on the day, whether you’re a community group, an individual, a business or a school,” Jenny Thompson said.
“We will have graffiti removal kits available on site, so all people will need to bring with them is their enthusiasm.
“We ask that all people who are interested in attending register with us so we can cater for the barbecue. You can register by contacting Council via email on graffiti@wollongong.nsw.gov.au or calling (02) 4227 7816.”
Council is also encouraging people who are not able to attend the Graffiti Action Day clean up to register as a ‘Community Champion’ and help remove graffiti in their own local area on an ongoing basis.
Graffiti Action day is a Keep Australia Beautiful initiative delivered via partnership between the NSW Government and NSW Councils.
Citizens who see graffiti anywhere in Wollongong, any time, can report it to the Graffiti Reporting Line by telephoning 4227 7816 or emailing graffiti@wollongong.nsw.gov.au.
