Learn some tips of the writing  trade, delve into Scandinavian crime fiction and find out about DH Lawrence’s time in Thirroul, at Thirroul District Library. 

The Guest Speaker Series starts on Wednesday, 23 February 2011 between 5 and 6pm at Thirroul Library.

Five guest speakers including two authors, a screen writer, a playwright and a fiction crime specialist will discuss their area of expertise and their climb to success.

Council’s Manager of Community Cultural and Library Services, Jenny Thompson, said that the Guest Speaker Series is a fantastic, free event for adults to hear authors, playwrights and others talk about their work and their passions.

“Three time Australian Writer’s Guild Award nominee, Simon Luckhurst author of Eddie’s Country, will be our first author and will give guests 11 tips to help them become successful writers and one tip that will guarantee failure.”

“Previous Guest Speaker Series have been very successful and attracted large crowds, including 125 guests last year for Hugh Mackay’s talk,” Ms Thompson added.

Wednesday, 23 February – Simon Luckhurst, author of Eddie’s Country
Wednesday, 2 March – Geoff Sykes, playwright of Somewhere South about DH Lawrence in Australia
Wednesday, 9 March – Aileen Harland, ex-teacher on Scandinavian Crime Fiction
Wednesday, 16 March – Rie Natalenko, screenwriter and author
Wednesday, 30 March – Bill Condon, author of Confessions of a liar, a thief and a failed sex god

All events are free, bookings are not required, Thirroul District Library is located at 352-358 Lawrence Hargrave Drive, Thirroul.
