Following on from the successful talks with Dr Karl and Professor Ed Blakely, Wollongong City Council’s third Town Hall Talk will feature Dr Glenn Mitchell and Max Hardy on good leadership and how this affects the future of a city.

Dr Mitchell is a senior lecturer and convenor of the history program at the University of Wollongong and Max Hardy is a Director at Twyfords, a Wollongong company specialising in community engagement.

The final free Town Hall Talk will be held in the Auditorium in Wollongong’s Town Hall on Wednesday 19 October from 6.30pm. All community members are invited to attend the talks.

Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery said an understanding of good leadership and good governance is essential for any city to grow and prosper.

“What makes a citizen of our city feel welcome and valued to come into Council and have their say? How do we encourage all community members to play a role in how Council provides its services?” Cr Bradbery said. “These are questions that we need to look at to ensure that as a new Council we are meeting the needs of our communities.”

In February 2009 Max Hardy co-facilitated Australia's first Citizens' Parliament, in Old Parliament House Canberra.  He also co-designed and co-facilitated the Premier's Growth Management Summit in Brisbane in March 2010.

Dr Mitchell is has taught Australian History since 2001 at the University of Wollongong and has received two OCTAL awards - Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Outstanding Contribution to Teaching and Learning.

Council will be running a number of other community activities to help create Wollongong 2022, the city’s Community Strategic Plan; this will include a Community Summit on 29 and 30 October.
