Wollongong City Council is finalising the first stage of community consultation on the MacCabe Park Revitalisation Project. As part of this Council is giving the community a chance to comment on the design principles which will set the course for the revitalisation of MacCabe Park.
Council’s Director of Infrastructure and Works, Peter Kofod, said that following on from initial community feedback in November last year, the NSW Government Architect’s Office have developed nine design principles.
The nine design principles are:
- Create a new kind of park for Wollongong
- Create a park structure that can evolve over time
- Strengthen safety and security by encouraging activities in the park
- A well connected park
- A ‘green’ park
- An environmentally sustainable oasis
- A park with lots of different uses and for people of all ages
- A park that reflects its place and uses its existing assets
- A park for all occasions.
“We want the community’s feedback on how important each of these design principles are to them. Then we can use that information to form the foundations for development of a draft master plan for the park,” said Mr Kofod.
“The upgrade of the park is a long term project and it is important that we get it right.”
“It’s clear that the community value the space and would like to see it as a vibrant community hub in the middle of the CBD.”
