Volunteering Illawarra will be hosting a free Volunteers Expo to coincide with this year’s National Volunteers Week (9 – 15 May),
The Expo will be held on Thursday, 12 May from 9.30am to 2pm at the Illawarra Master Builders Club.
Volunteer-based organisations from across the Illawarra will be on hand to promote the variety of options available for those who would like to make a contribution to the community.
Council’s Manager of Community, Cultural and Library Services, Jenny Thompson, said that without the dedication of volunteers many of the services we enjoy, and sometimes take for granted, would not exist.
“Volunteers play an essential role in making our community a better place, and this Expo provides a great opportunity for us to acknowledge that contribution and encourage more people to get involved in volunteer work,” said Ms Thompson.
“Within Council alone, volunteers work across a vast array of areas, from our libraries and art gallery to community transport, social support, and environmental programs.
“As well as helping the community, volunteering is a great way for people to develop their skills, meet new people and gain valuable work experience.”
Volunteering Illawarra is a Wollongong City Council program, funded by the Federal government, that trains, places and supports volunteers throughout the local area.
