On Friday 11 March, 2011, Wollongong City Council will host a special choral performance by the Noborito Mixed Chorus from Kawasaki, Japan for the community to enjoy at IPAC. The Chorus will be supported by Wollongong’s own Lamplighters Male Choir.
Wollongong City Council’s Director Corporate and Community Services (Acting), Greg Doyle said that Wollongong and Kawasaki have shared links for 23 years.
“During this time there have been a number of cultural exchange programs including an authentic Noh Theatre performance and a performance from Wollongong Pianist Jesse Pinazza with the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra.”
“We’re very excited that our own Lamplighters will be performing with the Noborito Mixed Choir. These two groups are both well known in their home towns and have also performed overseas.”
The Noborito Mixed Choir is made up of 40 local Kawasaki citizens who are well known for performing in their home city as well as traveling and performing overseas to foster international ties.
The Lamplighters Male Choir comprises 55 members. The group has a repertoire of 4 part harmonies and has performed around Australia.
Musical Director, Doreen Bryars said the group is honoured to have been invited to perform with the Noborito Mixed Choir.
“We’re looking forward to meeting the Choir and performing with them, in particular we’re very excited about the two pieces the choirs will perform together – Waltzing Matilda and Sakura Sakura (Cherry Blossom),” she added.
Tickets are $7 Adult and $5 concession and include light refreshments and a chance to mix with the two choirs at the end of the concert. Tickets are available from the IPAC Box Office on 4224 5999 or www.ipac.org.au
