Wollongong City Council is seeking nominations for a range of committees to assist Council with decision making.

The committees include the Estuary and Coastal Zone Management Committee, the Wollongong Heritage Advisory Committee, and the Environment and Sustainability Reference Group.

Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery OAM said committees were another way the community was able to help shape Council policy.

“Council is encouraging community members to nominate for one of these committees,” Cr Bradbery.

“It’s a great way to learn some more about environmental and heritage issues and contribute knowledge to assist Council in making decisions."

Nominations are being sought for community/environmental group representatives and independent scientific advisors.

Environmental and Sustainability Reference Group

The Environment and Sustainability Reference Group will provide advice to Council on the development and implementation of environmental policies and strategies. It will also review, develop and monitor key strategic projects that relate to, or impact on, the conservation and management of Wollongong’s environment. A key priority will be to review council’s Sustainability Policy, first endorsed in 2002.

Estuary and Coastal Zone Management Committee

The Estuary and Coastal Zone Management Committee was established to advise on the implementation of Council’s Estuary Management Program and the development of the Coastal Zone Management Plan. It will continue to look at issues like the impact of climate change upon coastal areas.

Wollongong Heritage Advisory Committee

The Wollongong Heritage Advisory Committee has been established to provide advice to Council on its policies and strategic projects where these relate to the management, conservation and promotion of Wollongong’s heritage.
