Do you know a person who has been active in promoting the role of older people in the community? Wollongong City Council is calling for nominations from the community for the United Nations International Day for Older Persons 2010 City of Wollongong Award.
Older Person Award Nomination form
Closing date to submit a nomination form is Wednesday, 9 March 2011.
Wollongong City Council’s Manager Community, Cultural and Library Services, Jenny Thompson said that this award is for a person who has supported the integration of older people into the life of community.
“This award is one way of recognising the important role our older residents play in our community.”
“Previous winners have included people who have established programs and events for older people to keep them socially active, done significant work in planning for the growth in the number of older people in our community, or recognised the skills, knowledge and experience of older people within our community.”
“Last year’s winner, George Bartolo, played a significant role in establishing a number of social programs and events for Maltese and was instrumental in establishing the Maltese Club,” Mrs Thompson added.
Nomination forms are available at Council’s libraries and can be downloaded from our website at www.wollongong.nsw.gov.au. Nominations close on Wednesday 9 March. Nominees must be residents of Wollongong.
The winner will be announced at the official opening of Seniors Week at 1pm on Sunday 20 March at the Illawarra Master Builders Club. The Tornadoes and Johnny Devlin will provide entertainment for the event. Tickets for the official opening and award ceremony can be purchased at the Master Builders Club or Wollongong City Council.
