Three Pop Up exhibitions and a Cultural Forum begin this week as the lead up to the 2011 Viva la Gong Festival gets underway.

The Pop-Up Exhibitions in Globe Lane and Crown Street feature contemporary art works by local artists as well as performance and poetry, while a third Pop-Up will feature a photography exhibition based on 10 years of Circus WOW.

Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery OAM said the Pop-Up exhibitions are a wonderful way to view art works from young artists as well as experience the moveable art that is part of the Viva la Gong Festival 2011. “These small exhibitions offer community members an ideal opportunity to engage with the creative life of the community in a new context, in the heart of the city’s retail precinct, in the lead up to Viva la Gong on 12 November.

“Not only will we be bringing art, photography and poetry to the streets, we will also be hosting a Cultural Forum featuring an exciting panel of dynamic thinkers: David Curtis, Greer Taylor and Susan Angel.”

The Cultural Forum will explore the nexus between art and the environment at a special event at the Wollongong City Gallery on Wednesday 9 November from 6.30pm.
