For one lucky Kanahooka couple paying their rates and charges on time has seen them win a new Ford Fiesta car.
More than 9,000 ratepayers who paid their rates and charges up front before 31 August this year went into a draw to win a new car valued at $20,000 or a $1,500 travel voucher from Wollongong City Council.
The winners of the new car in Council’s Rates Incentive scheme are Mr R N Coulson and Mrs K A Coulson from Kanahooka. The couple will receive their new car at Wollongong’s Administration Building on Thursday 13 October at 2.30pm. The Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery OAM will hand over the keys to the winning couple.
Council provides a car as incentive for householders to pay their entire rates bill prior to the end of the first quarter.
Mr Bradbery said Council hold conducts a rates incentive program each year to encourage households to pay their rates up front to help reduce administrative costs and generate extra income for the city.
“Council’s incentive scheme enables Council to raise revenue at the beginning of the financial year and this revenue can help pay for services, facilities and infrastructure for all members of the community,” Cr Bradbery said.
“For the past financial year Council rates made up 51 percent of Council’s income and this revenue help us look after local beaches, parks, playgrounds and sports fields, collect waste, maintain our roads, and run our libraries, community centres and many other programs for all citizens.”
