Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery OAM has presented the 26th annual “Rise and Shine” Environment Awards at the Masters Builders Club, Wollongong.
The awards were presented on Thursday, 8 December 2011, from 6pm.
Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery OAM presented the Annual Awards to individuals, community groups and representatives of the business and government sectors to acknowledge outstanding achievement that has benefited the city’s environment.
“Council is proud to say that these are the 26th Anniversary of the awards for participation in the “Rise and Shine” Campaign,” Councillor Bradbery said.
“Council also presented the “Rise and Shine” Campaign’s highest honour, the prestigious Basil Ryan Award, which is presented to a community group, organisation or individual considered to have demonstrated outstanding commitment to environmental improvement within the city.”
Winner of the Basin Ryan Award is Conservation Volunteers Australia for their outstanding work in environmental enhancement & education in the Illawarra.
Gold Awards were presented in the following categories:
- Community Group – Port Kembla Board Riders Club
- Citizen – Carol Nance
- School – Cringila Public School
Cr Bradbery said: “The awards acknowledge the partnership between the community and council to improve the local environment. The presentation evening allows Council to express its thanks for the work undertaken by volunteers throughout the City over the past year.”
