Gipps Road, Gwynneville will be closed between Foley and Vickery Street from 3.30pm Monday 4 April until early Tuesday morning for road works.

Local detours will be in place however, Council recommend that vehicles using the road to access Keiraville or Mount Keira consider using an alternative route.

Wollongong City Council’s Director Infrastructure and Works said that it had been intended to complete the work in one night. “Unfortunately the subgrade, which is the ground under the structure of the road, was heavily waterlogged which required the removal of a large amount of clay.”

“All shops will still be accessible by foot.”

“A reconstruction job like this would have previously taken up to a week; however we are currently trialling a new method which allows us to undertake the works in a shorter time frame with the road open between shifts to allow greater convenience for local residents.
