About Viva

Viva La Gong is a festival run by Council to celebrate and showcase our creative talents and generate a strong sense of community pride. Viva Creative team hinted the theme for this year’s Viva festival program will be ‘Stories of Land and Sea’.

Expressions of Interest Now Open

Local performers, artists, community organisations and businesses are invited to be part of this year’s Viva la Gong festival, which will bring the heart of Wollongong alive on Saturday, 6 November 2010.

Wollongong Council is kicking off a call for Expressions of interest from members of the community who want to perform, exhibit and participate in the Viva experience.

Expressions of interest should be submitted by Friday, 13 August, and can be downloaded at www.vivalagongfestival.org or under See Also on this page.

Viva 2010 Theme

Wollongong is rich in natural and cultural heritage as a city that looks to the sea, the escarpment and the landscape for inspiration, while recognising the truly cosmopolitan city that we have become. Thanks to the diversity of people who have come to Wollongong over the years and made it their home. The Viva team is also committed to ensuring that the festival reflects our commitment as a city, to sustainability.

Viva La Gong will start with a street parade leading into the festival hub at MacCabe Park, where an exciting cultural program will provide a unique experience to the people of Wollongong throughout the day and into the early evening on Saturday, 6 November.

Perfomances by both local and visiting performers will range from musicians to circus to dance, which will combine with exhibitions at the Wollongong City Gallery and other local art spaces, as well as writing and poetry events. There will be an international food fair, arts and craft markets, an eco village and multiple stages and performance areas.
