Volunteers Wanted for Community Reference Panel

Wollongong City Council is looking for a diverse group of people aged 16 + who want to ‘have their say’ about how Council consults and communicates.

General Manager, David Farmer, said that the ideas generated by the panel will help Council develop effective ways of connecting and communicating with a wide cross section of the community.

“Wollongong City Council is genuinely committed to improving channels of communication with the community,” said Mr Farmer.

“We’re encouraging people who speak a language other than English, are Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, have a disability, or represent different ages, family compositions, employment status and income earnings to apply for the panel.”

Panel members will attend three workshops during March, which may include meetings, focus group discussions, surveys, brainstorming sessions, email and online discussions.

Workshops will be scheduled to fit in with the majority of panel members. Meetings may be planned for early mornings, weekday evenings or weekends. These will be arranged once the panel is established.

Details of the roles and responsibilities of the panel are available on Council’s website.

To apply to become a panel member, residents can fill in an Expression of Interest form online or contact our Customer Service Centre on 4227 7111 for further information.

Applications close on Monday, 21 February 2011, and can be emailed to consultation@wollongong.nsw.gov.au or posted to:
