The NSW State Government recently legislated for elections for Wollongong City Council to be held on 3 September 2011, and for the Local Government Area to be divided into three wards for electoral purposes.
Administrator Robert McGregor AM said the Council is seeking public comment on the proposed new ward boundaries to comply with the recent legislation from the NSW Government.
“Wollongong City will have three wards with each ward represented by four councillors,” Mr McGregor said. “There will also be an election on the same day for the City’s Lord Mayor.
“The wards will be roughly equal in terms of population size. We are encouraging all citizens to comment on the new ward boundaries and comments will be received by Council up until the close of the public exhibition.”
The three ward proposal is based on Ward 1 being comprised of the previous northern Wards 1 and 2; the proposed Ward 2 being a combination of previous central Wards 3 and 4; and the proposed Ward 3 being made up of the previous southern Wards 5 and 6.
The ward boundary plan and explanatory material may be inspected at Wollongong City Council’s Administration building 41 Burelli St Wollongong from 12 May 2011 until Tuesday, 14 June 2011. Copies of the plan can also be viewed on Council’s website at www.wollongong.nsw.gov.au and at branch libraries.
You will be able to provide comments on the proposed changes either through the internet site or in a letter to The Administrators, Wollongong City Council, Locked Bag 8821 Wollongong NSW 2500. Submissions must be received by Tuesday, 14 June 2011.
