Warrawong Library will celebrate the first anniversary of its move to its current King Street premises on Tuesday 29 November.

Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery said the library had continued to provide an invaluable source of information and entertainment to the community in its new location.

“Libraries are community hubs that provide a diverse range of information and entertainment for all citizens,” Cr Bradbery said.
“It is with great pleasure that we celebrate the first birthday of this new location and the longstanding importance the Warrawong Library has held for the community."

The new premises have proved a success with more than 8,000 people borrowing 10,000 items each month, including fiction and non-fiction books, DVDs, CDs and study resources.

Cr Bradbery said the library held nostalgic value for many local citizens who had been using the facilities for many years.
“Many library customers have been coming to Warrawong Library for years and are an integral part of what makes our libraries special.”

Cr Bradbery made special mention of the library’s first customer, John Sladek, who would be attending the celebrations.
“Mr Sladek was the first customer through the door at the original Port Kembla library and we are fortunate to have him coming along to the celebration. Having used the library for over 62 years, Mr Sladek is just one of the devoted customers who keeping coming back”.

The community is welcome to attend the celebration on Tuesday 29 November and share in the cutting of the cake. Children will also be able to join in the fun with a magic show.
