Wollongong City Council has approved the draft revision of six chapters of the Wollongong Development Control Plan 2009 for community comment.
During the review Council will seek community comment over a six week period while the Chapters are on exhibition.
Council’s Wollongong Development Control Plan 2009 came into force on 3 March 2010. The review of the DCP began six months after its commencement.
To simplify the review process and maximise opportunities for community consultation Council has divided the review into three stages. The first stage of the review was reported to Council in April 2011 with eight Chapters revised and three Chapters repealed. This stage has been exhibited and comments received will be reported to Council in July 2011.
Stage 2 of the review deals with six Chapters and two appendices of the DCP. Those Chapters include:
• B2 Residential Subdivision
• C16 Sex Services Premises and Restricted Premises (Sex Shop)
• E2 Crime Prevention through Environmental Design
• E6 Landscaping
• E16 Bushfire Management
• E17 Preservative and Management of Trees and Vegetation
“The Wollongong Development Control Plan 2009 is a relatively new planning instrument which combined 89 different Council policies within one document,” Administrator Robert McGregor AM said. “While this document is a significant improvement on the controls that previously guided development in Wollongong, the Wollongong Development Control Plan 2009 requires ongoing review and refinement.”
