Wollongong City Council will begin essential road works on Mount Keira Road from 7 November until late December, and due to the nature of the work Council will close the road while works are undertaken.
Mt Keira Road will be closed between the archery and the hairpin turn and partially closed between the hairpin and Queen Elizabeth Drive to allow access for residents and business only in that section of the road.
Access to the Illawarra Archers Range and the Girl Guide camp will be via the Princes Highway. Access to the Mt Keira Scout Camp, Telecommunication Tower and Mt Keira Summit Lookout will be via Clive Bissel Drive or Picton Road.
Council has placed signs on the road to notify drivers of the closure. Emergency services organisations including the Rural Fire Service have been notified of the closure. While this work is essential we understand that if will be inconvenient and apologies for the disruption it may cause.
Over recent months Council has been working on Mount Keira road undertaking drainage and road stabilisation works. This work has been necessary due to the slow moving but persistent landslides. Council is continually undertaking geotechnical assessments in this area. Stage one of these works was completed in the last financial year. Council is now preparing to commence stage 2 of the works on Mount Keira Road.
