National Youth Week is back from 1–10 April 2011.  If you’re aged between 12 – 24 years, this is your time to ‘OWN IT’ and get involved with an exciting range of events, activities and competitions happening throughout Wollongong.

Wollongong City Council’s Coordinator Youth Services, Toby Schaefer-Darling said that Council’s Youth Week will be launched with a free outdoor festival hosted by Wollongong Youth Action Team in MacCabe on Friday, 1 April from 4 – 8pm. There’ll be live musicians, body art, exhibitions, food and much more!

“Youth Week is a great opportunity for young people to actively participate in a fantastic program of free events, try new things, and share their ideas and talents,” said Mr Schaefer-Darling.

“We encourage all young locals to get involved and enjoy the wide range of activities on offer.”

If you want to check out the next wave of local musicians performing live, come to Wollongong Youth Centre on Saturday, 2 April.  Between 12 noon and 3pm a range of great artists will be performing at the Wollongong Youth Centre.

Across the course of the week you can join in a special workout session, enter a photo in the Youth Homelessness Matters Day photo / art competition, attend ‘Launch Cabaret’, create an artwork at a special workshop, or listen to a debate.

Finish up the week on Saturday, 9 April with the third annual skate comp, Big Machine, at Fairy Meadow Skate Park. There’ll be live music, youth specific information and a sausage sizzle. A free bus will run from Wollongong and Thirroul for this event.
