Dogs on beaches

Council wants community feedback on a discussion paper which is currently on exhibition. The Dogs on Beaches discussion paper proposes a new approach to managing dogs on beaches. A copy of the discussion  paper appears on the right under related documents.

Council would like to introduce a new 'traffic light system' which would see beaches designated as either green, orange or red for dog access. Please see the maps listed in the related documents on the right to find out what is proposed for your area.

Through the proposed changes, Council would like to balance the needs of dog owners and other beach users who may be concerned about the impact of dogs on beaches.

We have arranged a number of opportunities for the community to speak to Council officers about the proposed changes. The Flyer under the related documents to the right, provides details of where you can find out more whether it is by attending your local neighbourhood forum or visiting one of the information kiosks we will be holding in several locations across the local government area.

Residents have until 6 August to comment on the discussion paper. A community feedback form is available under related documents to assist residents with providing feedback on the proposal.

To view Council's current off leash area policy (for both beaches and parks) please visit our off leash areas webpage. The off leash areas listed on this webpage are still applicable and residents should abide by the current policy.
