Safety guidelines


Clothing for maximum protection:

  • long pants and long sleeves;
  • strong, enclosed boots or shoes;
  • strong work gloves;
  • wide brimmed hat;
  • wear protective glasses when removing weed such as Lantana.

Hazardous materials on site:

  • follow the safe working procedure for handling & disposal of any needles that are found. Gloves and sharps containers are to be used;
  • asbestos or fibro refuse: report all findings to the coordinator. Do not touch;
  • herbicide to be used only if training has been completed;
  • eye protection, long sleeves, long trousers/overalls and impervious gloves are to be worn when handling or spraying herbicide;
  • Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) will be kept on site when herbicides are used.

Hazards on site:

  • be alert to the presence of snakes and spiders and report any sightings to the coordinator;
  • report all near misses and incidents that occur in the work zone to the coordinator;
  • use sun screen on exposed skin;
  • take frequent drinks breaks on hot days and work in the shade if possible.
