World Environment Day

Students being taught environmental benefits at the Botanic Garden

On 5 June we join organisations and individuals around the globe in marking World Environment Day.

We organises a range of special activities aimed at promoting how the people in our local community can help make Wollongong the most environmentally-friendly city in the world.

World Environment Day has been celebrated with an environmental expo held at the Wollongong Botanic Garden. More than 1,000 students from years five and six attend Enviro, taking part in interactive workshops conducted by both government and private organisations. The workshops were a hands-on opportunity for students to learn more about how the environment works and the issues they’ll face as future decision-makers on sustainability, water pollution, catchment protection and local ecology.

The Enviro event provides a unique opportunity for young people to increase their level of awareness of issues such as air and water pollution, biodiversity, the need to protect wildlife, the importance of recycling, and the need to think globally and act locally.
