Council is providing equipment to help people lead active and healthy lifestyles, addressing our Community Strategic Plan Goal – ‘We are a healthy community in a liveable city’.
The research tells us that outdoor gyms provide opportunities for people to participate in moderate and vigorous intensity physical activity and muscle strengthening activities. This could improve their risk factors associated with chronic disease and reduce the risk of falls.
Studies indicate that the majority of older adults who use outdoor gyms report benefits in terms of physical and psychological health, as well as social connection.
Did you know that the recently updated physical activity guidelines from the Australian Government’s Department of Health suggest that Adults require muscle strengthening activities on as least 2 days each week; and should accumulate 150 to 300 minutes (2½ – 5 hours) of moderate intensity physical activity OR 75 to 150 minutes (1¼ to 2½ hours) of vigorous intensity physical activity each week.
To help facilitate physical activity, we have successfully installed outdoor exercise equipment at the following locations:

- Holborn Park, Holborn Street, Berkeley
