Kembla Grange
Location
Kembla Grange is located approximately 12.5 km from Wollongong. The eastern boundary of Kembla Grange lies along the Southern Freeway which separates the suburb from Berkeley and which extends as far north as Northcliffe Drive. The main northern limits of Kembla Grange stretch to the Unanderra - Moss Vale Railway line, and the suburbs of Unanderra and Farmborough Heights. The southern border of Kembla Grange follows Mullet Creek until it meets the AIS railway, this railway then forming the southern most point of the suburb. To the west, the suburb gently slopes up the escarpment and is bound by the Cordeaux and Dombarton areas.
Place names
Kembla Grange
Parish of Kembla County of Camden
In 1856 the property was advertised to let, by Robert Howarth, as a farm at Dapto known as Kembla Grange. The name Kembla was taken from Mount Kembla and is said to mean "plenty of fowl" or "abundant game". Another explanation is that it is a corruption of the aboriginal word "Djembla" and means "a wallaby".
