The LAB is our new collaborative learning space at Wollongong Central Library. Join us for one of our many Get Skilled workshops, or drop-in to one of our exciting monthly programs.

SEWING MACHINES

Picture of sewing machineSewing machines are now available for use in The Lab!

Book a one-on-one sewing machine safety induction where you will learn to safely thread the needle, wind the bobbin, change the stitch and use the pedal. Sessions available on 2nd and 4th Monday of the month, 10am-12noon.

For those who have completed a safety induction, sewing machines are available to book on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month between 5.30 - 8pm.

Join us for one of our tech classes or one-on-one sessions to help you build your technology skills. Get Skilled covers:

FINANCIAL PLANNING - SAVER PLUS

In partnership with The Smith Family a free ten month matched savings and financial education program that assists people on lower incomes to strengthen their financial skills, develop a savings habit and save for educational costs with be running in The LAB. The program, Saver Plus, encourages saving by matching their savings dollar for dollar, up to $500 that can be used to pay for education costs such as school uniforms, swimming lessons, computers, textbooks, music tuition and school excursions.

To join Saver Plus you must:

  • Have a Centrelink Health Care or Pensioner Concession Card
  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Have some regular income from work (you or your partner)
  • Have a child at school or attend vocational education yourself

Is English your second language and you want to build confidence interacting at work? Join Settlement Service International (SSI) to learn simple strategies to help you communicate confidently in the workplace.

Every Friday, 9:30am - 2:30pm for 9 weeks.
